What’s Under The Hood?

Having your own car can be one of life’s biggest achievements. However, owning a car is more than just paying it in full and having your name on it. It is more than that. To be a good car owner, it takes a lot of responsibility—not just about driving but getting to know your car as well. How acquainted you are with the car you are driving tells how responsible you are as a driver and as an owner. Even if automobiles are mass produced, it would still be beneficial to take a closer look in their every detail. What are the different parts of a car and what role does each play in its overall function?

  1. The Hood. It might be the first part of the car that would greet you when you come close to its front. It contains an integral part of the mobile to keep it moving. Even if it can appear too complex once you open it, it is possible to get to know its different parts and function. You don’t need to be a mechanic to identify the engine, which is located at the center, and which one is the radiator located just in front of it. The engine is like the brain of the car and the radiator acts like the lungs that work with the air conditioner compressor and is the temperature regulator of the mobile. The rectangular box is the battery that helps turn on the car. The transmission can either be beside the engine or at its rear end, depending on what kind of wheel drive your car has and it helps to transmit power from your driveshaft to your wheels.
  2. The Internal Parts. When we sit inside the car, we can readily see its different parts including the steering wheel that you turn into different directions depending on where you are going. At the base of the foot in the driver’s seat, you can find the accelerator that can be stepped on to make the speed of the car go faster. The brakes regulate the speed of the car by slowing it down when needed. The dashboard, located in front and is facing the passengers, contain all the meters for the speed, the fuel content, the AC control, the thermostat, and everything else that you need to control the car. We cannot forget the gear stick that lets the driver control or shift the gears for the movement of the car.
  3. The External Parts. Everything we see outside of the car is a big cover of all the smaller integral parts of the vehicle. We have the roof that serves as the cover overhead, the doors, windows, the windshield, and the side mirrors. We also have the muffler where all the exhausts of the car come out.

These are just basic parts of the car that play important roles in all its mobility. Take the time to get to know them all so you would be in a better position to say that you own it and you know it.
